I'm so proud of this piece, it's my first attempt at intarsia, and I only screwed up a little on the ear because I carried too many threads at once (which luckily, is hard to see in the pictures.)  I also had some issues with the lining because of the annoying shape it was... but lets not stare inside and just pretend it's all good, okay?  Grin

I cheated a little to get this picture... I stuffed the bag with yarn so it would puff out.   Lips sealed

A little peek at the lining.

Love it! That bag looks like a lot of work, and it seemed to pay off.  Shocked

It was actually pretty easy... it's all knit flat and you sew it all together at the end.  And about the intarsia... well... you've gotta start somewhere, right?  Even if it looks a little screwy, it's great practice.

And the pattern is from the Stitch and Bitch book.   Smiley  (You could very easily make a chart with Hello Kitty, too.  Just search on google for "Hello kitty cross stitch" and there are a bunch that you could probably use for knitting instead.)

That looks really great!  Oftentimes, the actual knitter is the only one that can see or pick out mistakes.  Others who are looking at it are just so blown away by how amazing the product looks just like your backpack!  I love it!

I am also on the edge of giving intrasia a try... BTW, did you use the yarn recommended in the book or did you use something else.  Cuz, quite frankly, the cost of the yarn is keeping me away from the project as well.

Excellent job!

No, actually, I rarely use the yarn they suggest because I'm vegan and therefore won't knit with wool, silk, etc.  I knit this using Caron's Simply Soft for the purple, and although it wasn't the greatest match, Red Heart Super Saver for the intarsia.  The Red Heart was a bit bulkier, but I had limited means at the time I made it, and was working on left over scraps.  If I were to make this again, I would definitely use only the Simply Soft - it's much better quality while still being cheap, in my opinion.
