4 skeins of Silk Garden go a long way (ballet tee)
«

December 28, 2005 04:22:51 PM »
For my birthday present to myself back in October, I bought 4 skeins of Silk Garden (color 228 I think, although I don't have a label with me). I was able to make the Teva Durham ballet top with them. I actually had a bit left over. I wish I had planned the color on the sleeves better so that they would be a bit longer.
Trying to be a model, while not fully understanding the principles of using a flash while standing right next to a wall:
So you can see both sleeves (they don't match, and I'm not sure if I like that or don't).
If you look, you can still see the ladders from my DPNs.
I modified the pattern for gauge and for sleeves. I had the pattern out of the Loop-d-Loop book, with cap sleeves. I used Option #1 from
Grumperina's guide to adding long sleeves
, and it worked really well.
If I were to do this pattern with Noro again, I'd modify the way I did the body so that the width of those stripes matched the width of the stripes on the sleeves.

i think it looks awesome. you can't engineer silk garden too much - better to let the stripes go as they are. this is the first ballet tee i've seen in a non-solid color - it looks fabulous! what # of silk garden is it?

I really like it! I wouldn't worry about the sleeves, like them non-matchy
Great job!

That's just plain hot. I like it. Trying to match the stripes would probably drive you mad anyway, more so with only four balls of yarn. It looks good

Love the yarn, the colors are very nice.
Four skeins? What was the total yardage?
And by the way, I think the sleeves look fine; that's the problem with varigated yarn, each ball is dyed differently.

I love the non-matchy sleeves... I think it has more character that way!
I'm also curious about the itchy factor...

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I would have responded sooner, but I didn't get any e-mail notifications.
It is pretty itchy, and I do have sensitive skin, so I'm not going to wear it for more than an hour or two at a time.
The labels are at school, and I'm at home for 2 more weeks, so this info is from Google:
4 skeins together makes 440 yards, I think. The colorway is definitely 228. I bought that colorway actually thinking it was a different one, but I'm happy with all the greens.
