Sometimes it is just easier to handsew zippers in, I don't have access to my machine right now so all my sewing is by hand right now.

Sometimes I make machine sounds while I'm hand sewing so I feel like it's going faster than it is  Embarrassed

I don't use a zipper foot either. I have one, but learned without one, so I feel more confident w/out.  Smiley

hey shiitake, do you do your own batik? i love the colors of batik in the shops, even the machine made batik. it's like tie-dying no? is it a big mess though?

Yep I do! Well it's almost like tie-dying but instead of knots there are waxed areas.Removing the wax from the finished and dyed fabric is a mess indeed..

I always handsewed the zipper.  And then use the machine for the rest.

I learned how to use the sewing machining by watching the video that come with the machine.  And I don't think it shows me how to use the zipper foot.  So I guess I don't how.

It is pretty easy.  You just pin the zipper between two piece of fabic (with both right side fabric facing the zipper).  It takes me a couple try to have the fabric facing the right way.  Then just sew away.  Then you can either finish the rest of the stitch on a sewing machine or by hand.
