I made this for my friend's birthday.  She likes owls.
It was my first attempt at both embroidery and bookbinding, so there are lots of little mistakes, but it works pretty well overall.

The fabrics are all recycled (the velvet is from my great-grandmother's curtains!), and I used an old game board to make the covers stiff, so I guess this could also go under reconstructed.

Fashion, art, friends, life....

God's thunder spits fire...and sends the oak trees dancing, a wild dance, whirling; the pelting rain strips their branches. We fall to our knees-we cry out, "glory".

That is absolutely gorgeous! First, I love the red book background choice. You did a great job on the owl emboidery! Good thread colors and eye button color. I also like that the owl seems to be squinting. I like the angle of his branch roost and minimal leaves on the branch. And the color of the book's button clasp matches nicely. Well done! Even your display fabric under the book is pretty. Have you ever thought of selling on Etsy? By the way, I love owls. Smiley

While we have the gift of life, it seems to me that the only tragedy is to allow part of us to die - whether it is our spirit, our creativity, or our glorious uniqueness.           Gilda Radner
