Personally, I think it would be nice to have labelled folders in your bookmarks, so you could find a specific project more easily.

I like the folders idea.
Also if we could bookmark entire boards, like the ones I normally check, like the Embroidery ones, Pet Crafts, etc. It would help when I just have a few minutes on the computer and could really quickly get to the boards I want to check.

bookmark sorting/labeling/tagging?
«
Reply #2 on:

first and foremost, i love love LOVE the bookmarks feature. it's so handy! thanks for adding it, leah!
it would rock super-hardcore, though, if there were some way to sort the bookmarks we have. while it's handy to have the ones with the newest comments on the top, i sometimes forget why i have something bookmarked until i look at the thread and go, "oh yeah, there's that tute i wanted" or "that gave me an awesome idea." if we could have folders that we could sort, manage, and place various threads in, it would be really handy. i'm not sure how much work it would be to do this (i'm guessing a lot!), but i know i would appreciate and use the crap outta a feature like this. whaddya other craftsters think?
i found a suggestion kinda like this on this thread
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=69341.0
, but i wasn't sure if this was the same thing they were talking about. plus, it's an old thread anyways. sorry mods, if i posted this outta place.

Agreed it would rock super-hardcore.
I do like the bookmarks feature, I am so grateful for it, but yeah I have a ton of things bookmarked, and it would be nice if I could somehow organize them.

I've thought this too - tagging bookmarks would be great! If we could get that, it would be awesome. If the software doesn't do that, or for some other reason it's not possible, one alternative would be to use del.icio.us (
http://del.icio.us
) to bookmark the posts that you want. I haven't tried it for forum posts, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. With del.icio.us, you can add your own description about the bookmark ("I got the idea for that crochet project from post #7") and then add tags to it (maybe tag all the craftster posts with a "craftster" tag so you can pull them from your other bookmarks more easily?) ... Anyway, just thought that might help, if anyone is interested!

Folder *would* be awesome. I wrote that feature in from scratch and it would take a loooong time to make it have bookmarks capabilities. Adding labels would be easier though. Maybe I could do that. I bet that the software we use here will eventually have a built-in bookmark system with folders!

I thought it might be fun if a thread also kept count of number of bookmarks along with number of replies and number of views. Not crucial by any stretch of the imagination...

I was thinking about something similar today... it can be listed alphabetically by topic. What about an option to list it also by category? I think it shouldn't be so difficult... though I know absolutely nothing about programming.
Because, unfortunatelly, the topic often doesn't say anything about the project, it often just says something about the colour etc...

Folders for the bookmarks.
«
Reply #19 on:
September 07, 2007 07:42:34 PM »
I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE to bookmark. I probably have at least a hundred in the short time I've been here. I think it would be helpful if we were able to organize our bookmarks into folders. I have a bunch of links: projects I'd like to try, swaps I might be interested in, techniques, advice/tips. It would be cool if I didn't have to look all over for the Jordy tutorial bookmark.
Does anyone else like this idea?

Folders!!! I would love folders for my bookmarks. I am sick of having to scroll thru all of my bookmarks to find something. I am almost afraid to bookmark things because I may never find them. I wish I could just file each bookmark into its own topic folder... all of my knitting interests in the the Knitting folder, etc. That's my dream! ( ok, so I don't have BIG dreams)

Bookmark Features (plus suggestions on what could be added)
«
Reply #22 on:

I just realized today that I always bookmark my Craftster faves into my Mozilla Bookmarks instead of on Craftster. I try using the site too but I like the fact that I can organize them in my Bookmarks on the net much better.
I'd LOVE it for the bookmarks on the site to be more customizable. Bolding favorites (yes, WITHIN our favorites!
), maybe even a place to take notes ("See page 6 for a cool idea!"), and maybe a way to separate them into specific folders? Members could create their own folders or they could be preassigned ones (Tutorials, Finished Projects, Questions, blah blah)
Of course you guys know I love the site, but thought I'd throw out something that would make it more "user friendly" (I use the term loosely because I think the forum already IS really user friendly)

I love the taking notes idea and specific folders one. For me, bolding isn't necessary, because I think I'd bold everything then.

Is there any way to go about this? If not, I think this would be a great feature. I have SO MANY bookmarks of topics I've started, swaps I'm in or watching, or threads I'm stalking, or great tutorials. It would help so much to have categories I could drop them into to make searching for a particular bookmark easier.
Thanks!

I love the idea of organizing bookmarks! I just bookmarked a thread thinking, "this would be great for my little sister's bday...gee, wish I could mark the bookmark so I would remember it come February". After a brief search, behold the bookmark wish thread. So, just throwing in my vote for bookmark organization. I like the preassigned categories plus the ability to create your own.
I think you guys are doing a great job!!

I've been using the bookmarks a lot more recently to keep track of all sorts of threads and I wish there was a way to jump to a certain page from the bookmark menu. I like how it notifies you that there are new replies to a certain topic, but if you have clicked on it once, to go to the end of the thread later, you have to select the topic (and load the first page) and then jump to the last page from there. It would be nice if there was a faster way to get to the end of the thread.
(I like on the main boards, you can select the page of the topic you wish to view without having to click on multiple screens)

I'm reviving this thread because I would also really like to see this feature- Windows Media Player (probably iTunes too) has a really simple/wonderful version of this, where you can rate each song on a five star system. It would be great to have the ability to do this within my bookmarks page.
I love the new layout! THANK YOU for making Craftster exist!

cutoutandkeep.net has a great bookmarking feature that lets you sort into different pre-named lists; they have a to-make list and a gift ideas list in addition to the regular "favorites" bookmark feature. I would love something like that over here, especially since I am here much more often.
edit: oh, you can also create your own list.

I would love to be able to:
1. Sort your Bookmarked items by Category
2. View the name of person who started the topic
3. View thumbnails on your Bookmarked items
Thanks!

It would be cool to have the bookmarks work like PMs, so you could tag them the same way. Thank you Leah for saying you'll think on it, you're awesome :-)

I AGREE! What a wonderful idea. I also think my bookmarks are out of control. And I have OCD so my crazy mess of bookmarks drives me insane. lol

Besides tagging or sorting bookmarks, it would be cool if they had boxes to checkmark if you are mass deleting, otherwise it is one at a time and then the pages re-load. Sometimes my computer is slow and it sucks.

Labels for bookmarks?

I'm not sure how feasible it is, but being able to label the bookmarks like the PM's would be incredibly handy for those of us who have a bazillion and one things in there.

+1 on the "drowning in bookmarks" front!
As far as I can see there hasn't been any action on this, so I'd like to bump that issue again.
I think Wendellina's ideas are quite suitable i.e. that they're not overly complicated/require lots of implementation effort but would make bookmark life sooo much easier!
Best,

(who just returned from a longish "copy all bookmarks in a text file, beat it around with regex and turn it into a csv"-foray she really doesn't want to repeat.)
