DISKETTE COASTER TUTORIAL!
First,,, you must find and buy one of those little kits in the children's craft area at your local wally world or other craft hangout.  Make sure you get a kit with a biggish square grid in it.  Like this

Ok,, now select your colors


Use this chart if you want them to be just like mine


start setting your melty beads on the pegs (I start at the top,, 18 across

using the chart until it looks something like this

Then, use that little piece of wax paper you found in the kit (don't toss it out!) and lay it on your work.  It doesn't matter which side.


Iron it a little bit at a time.  constantly check to see if the beads have started to melt.  DON'T MELT THEM TOO MUCH!

Then you need to let it cool a second or two (no peeking!)

Then lift it off.  It should come off quite easily.



And your done!  If it doesn't look completely melty or it doesn't stick together, DON'T LIFT IT OFF.  It's a pain to get back on the grid.  Not impossible but a pain none the less.  Good luck!

You can, I've done it both ways.  You can just flip and press the other side if you don't think it's "set" enough.

Thanks so much for the inspiration!  I made some diskette coasters over my holiday downtime.  Then I had so many beads left over, and must have been on the same wavelength as arrghmatey:   

(YAY! I was inspired by yours and made a set for my brother. He collects old arcade cabinets and restores them, so I thought he'd enjoy these. I used the little square thing, so mine are smaller (14 x 14) but I like em that way. My camera is broken or something, so the picture is horrible:(

So I made a bunch of original NES-inspired ones, kind of like the mario x-stitch or intarsia patterns, but 1 pixel=1 bead.  They are turning out great, and I'm having so much fun!  I'll post pictures as soon as I have a chance to.

so cute! i remember those beads! we had like a zillion, and then we got low and someone bought us a ton of some generic brand, and they don't work together. and they look exactly alike, so you can't tell which is which, so our whole collection was pretty useless.
