AHHH!  Those are exactly what I saw that gave me the idea!  I couldn't find the site again but fortunately when I saw them the first time I saved the pic to my HD so I could look at it later.

alright, im laying out my diskettes now. only thing is, my grid is only 14 wide. do you think this will create a problem when used as a coaster?

i wish there was someway i could make it without using the grid. Undecided

You could do the 14 by 14 part, iron it, then lift it off the grid, then resettle it on the grid with part hanging off--so you can add another four rows, etc....
