Hey I was really into these mukluks until I looked up the foxy yarn and it costs $27.99 for 17 yds?!!!!  And you need 6 skeins?  Am I missing something, like it comes in a bag of 5 balls or something??  Good God, yarnies!

You didn't miss a thing. I think IK missed something though, like the fact that we aren't all billionaires Smiley Someone earlier priced this project at something like $250 just for that furry yarn. And pointed out that it's even more ridiculous since these can only be worn inside. Hopefully this type of project will spur some cheaper yarn companies to come up with a good (and less expensive) yarn to substitute.

What I noticed was that it's just a fun fur with a REALLY long staple coming off the "main line".  That Bernat Disco (while sorta ugly) is oddly long, and since it's free and all, you could try it out just to see how they work.

Might not be as lush, but for something you wear inside, and for that price, I would say cheapness wins.

Yeah, I will probably look for a substitute- I know there are tons of furry yarns, I just want to find something that looks good!  I'm also thinking about using Lamb's Pride bulky instead.  I love IK, I can't believe they would do that!  I guess it was all  about the photo...
Oh and I am thinking about getting some ultrasuede on ebay to make soles...

Hi I hope that this thread isn't dead... Sorry I'm really knew to this have haven't posted much yet. But I wanted to tell you that I made the Mowat Mukluks and thought that Plymouth Foxy was insanely expensive too! It was hard finding a decent substitution, but I decided to go with Jo-Ann Sensations Mink (purchased from www.joann.com for $3/ball, and I needed 4 balls total for the pair of boots). For the wool I used Cascade 220, and it worked out perfectly! I was very happy with the results. I posted a picture on my website and flickr page if you want to see what they turned out like.
