dorm ideas

I'm gonna be off to college in Sept and more than likely living in residence. From what i've heard and read online there is little to no storage in dorms. I've been looking every where for inexpensive projects i can do that may add a little more storage to a small dorm room and i just cant find ne.

I was wondering if anyone had ideas for projects i could do, things that can help organize and decorate my dorm room. The theme i'm going with is based around fabric I found...

you could just slap some pockets on there and cover a hanger at the top and use it to store something in your closet. honestly though dorm rooms (at least the ones i lived in) are all different and odd so it might be hard to make what you need before you know the limitations of your room (and roommate). one thing i really liked were those wire carts you can roll under your bed. and little shelves under my clothes in the closet.

under the bed boxes are awesome and stackable boxes that are clear. those help alot. and if your dorm allows it you and your roommate could have lofts. if you dont know what those are its just a bed thats like a bunk bed but w/o the bottom bed so you can have like your bed above a couch, your desk, your storage, crafting area, whatever. but not all campuses allow these which sucks. anyway good luck! and awesome fabric.

instead of shelving (if you have wall space) you can tape up some wall "pockets" (seen em at ikea in kids section) to put in excess lightweight stuff.

bring not all of your items when you go (if it isn't too far) after you put everything in and get accustomed to it, you'll have a better idea.

I got a layout of the residence for the school i'll most likely be going it. The other schools dont seem to be too much different.



definately going to be moving around the furniture for a bit more space...

Are those full sized beds? And separate rooms for each bed? What school is this? I must apply there!

its niagara college, most of the colleges i've looked at have seperate rooms, cept one. Some are 2 bedroom suites and some are 6. Theres one college that even has town house type things where 6 ppl share a house!

  that is SOOO NICE! trust me, i'm a colelge freshman, i live on a hall, share 4 showers with at least 40 other girls annnnyyywhoo... what i find helpful is closet storage, things that fit unter shirts etc, and the under the bed plastic storage things (they are great!) also i put all my electronic stuff (tv, xbox, fan, dvd player, microwave etc.) on a metal tower/ bookcase type deal that i got at target
this was my room at the end of last semester, since then my roommate has moved out so i have a bit more room
