Ooh, I'm so blurry . . .

Eeee! I'm so proud of myself--I made a turkey that looks like a turkey completely without a pattern.  So, in other words, I probably couldn't write up a pattern if I tried.  I just winged it as I went along (no pun intended).

Anyway, here he is, photographed just in time for Etsy's competition.

Shocked Wow wow wow!  What a way to freehand!  Me jealous.
I'm going to have to attempt a freehand myself someday when I grow up.

I crocheted and stuffed his body with regular tan acrylic yarn first and then went over it with the cheap Target fringe-y yarn to make it look kind of like feathers.

And I really didn't think about winged until I typed it.  But it fits.

Hope your sweater turns out well.

I haven't tried to freehand any crochet animals yet, it looks so hard. Do you frog it alot when you freehand, or are all of you crochet geniuses? I tried once and I messed up so many times I decided to set it aside until I understood crochet more....

Parts of him got frogged as I went along, but after you've been crocheting long enough you get to know how the stitches look and go together and if you just think it through a little you can get pretty much what you want.  But I've been crocheting for a long time--off and on for about 15 years now, and pretty steadily in the last couple of years.  When I first started I abandoned a blanket because I couldn't make 2 granny squares the same size to save my life.

Just takes practice.  And if you mess something up, try to make the same mistake somewhere else to make it look symmetrical and tell everyone you did it on purpose.   Cheesy

I'm glad you all like my little critter.
