I made these a couple years ago, but thought I'd share anyway.

They were made from a few books of fabric samples that a neighbor was throwing away.  They were small samples -twice the length of one of the squares you see.  I cut them in half, sewed them in a more-or-less random manner, and used black cotton duck for the backing.  I bought pillow forms to go in the middle, and there you go.  I didn't use a zipper, because I couldn't find one large enough at the time.  These pillows are pretty big -about 2.5 x 2.5 feet.  We use them as floor pillows, and the cats really like them.

I had enough fabric samples left over to make some smaller pillows, but those are all in shades of beige, and not nearly as cool looking.

i think that is a terrific idea. do you know where your neighbour got them? i didn't think you could get that many from a fabric store.

I think my neighbor was an interior decorator, because she always seemed to be throwing away really nice fabric.  She would throw away half-bolts of $25.00+ per yard fabric, because it had tiny little imperfections, (that could easily be cut around).  I miss living near her!  Now I have to pay for all my fabric.  Grin
