I have a very small foyer - it's actually the landing of a staircase (about 3.5'x5') that needs a little pick-me-up.

I don't really want to paint it because it's part of a fairly open hall/living room/dining room area at the top and I *really* don't want to paint those rooms with a 14' cathedral ceiling!

What I'm thinking... I found a plain wooden child's bench that's just the right size to fit in the corner at the bottom of the stairs where I leave my shoes when I come inside. The bench is out-of-stock, but once it comes, I'll put that in the corner and put my shoes under the bench so they're easy to get to (it's open underneath) but not as visible as they are now. On the seat of the bench I'm thinking of putting some stuffed toys I have.

So far, so good, right? The wall next to the stairs is a diagonal... I'm thinking it'll be cute to put up shoes/purses/mittens/toys etc on the wall like they're sliding down to the bench. I'm sure I can find fabric with those designs on them and glue them on with starch.

Would that be on the fun&quirky or tacky&tasteless side of the line? (and yeah, I know, the line's different for everybody...)

And a picture would help...
