I've been wanting to knit a poncho of my own after seeing lots and lots of them lately. It's been stewing in the back of my mind... but I've been busy with other projects. So I recently saw these ponchos in a couple of stores recently (BR) of a fine-knit fabric and thought about how easy it would be to make my own. I bought a yard of knit fabric from the discount fabric store today for $1.50/yd and came home and stitched up my own. It's SUPER easy.

My fabric is 60" wide. I cut a 24"w x 60"l strip of fabric, folded it in half so that it was 24"w x 30"l and sewed up the 30" side leaving a 12" opening by the fold. There you go - super-fast, almost no-sew poncho. One seam - zip zip, and you're done!

awesome.  i'm so going to make one today.  after i finish the 3 pairs of pants and make some beer bread.  sooo...maybe it will be very late tonight.

btw, how are the edges holding up?  did you serge them or finish them at all?  do you think it'll fray, and maybe be a cool fray?

Thanks for the compliments! I didn't do anything to the edges - it doesn't look like the fabric will fray much or at all - I could tell when they cut it at the fabric store.

I felt spontainious (sp?) and I decided to make one and it turned out really good but then when I was holding up I realized that with just a little more fabric and a great beaded pin it could be a incredible skirt and it was. I was so excited to be walking around in my new creation.
