one thing on having a monthly swap...

most of the time we've been giving people about a month to sign up, then about two weeks to make stuff and send it, and it takes another week for people to get stuff (ignoring the fact that some people send late).  once a month would mean doing multiple swaps at once (maybe even three overlapping)!   Shocked

I'd vote for something more like one every two months...

i like holidays -- the red white and blue swap is cute - you have to make something within - those colors -- it can be just red or just blue or all three....

I would also say the june bug thing is cute - bug themes --------

I really like when you have to be a bit more creative and create within a given theme --- so you dont make the same ol stuff all the time and stretch your imagination!

I agree that it is more fun to craft for the swap when you're working within a theme, kind of like the secret valentino.  So.....I'm all for the themed swaps or specific item swaps (like the handbags) every couple of months.

Suggestions:
spring showers - all bath or rainy day related stuff
a letter or colour themed swap - all of the stuff has to start with a certain letter or be a certain colour
beach or outdoorsy stuff for summer

The handbag idea sounds very cute. But I have never made a purse/bag before!  I am a bit unsure if I'll be able to make one as nice as the ones posted!

What about a personalized swap? You get the person's name and you can monogram or incorporate the person's name into a purse, candles, wallet, jewelry etc, some how. I don't know...might be neat.

I would love to take part in a handbag swap...who would be the person in charge?

Also, I like the idea of colored theme swaps, like a blue swap, or a green swap. It think that is a cool idea, and would include all of the crafty people and the various things we all make. I think the two month time frame is good too.

i would love to organize a swap. i think a color themed swap would be awsome, only have the person include thier fav color so whatever you make is color personalized for that person. the only thing about giving a whole month to sign up is people will forget. i think 2 weeks to sign up and 2 weeks to make you gift is ok. and iff your short on money make something small that will be relitivly cheap to send

I think it would be neat to have a fabric swap. Swap like 2 meters of fabric with someone else Smiley
