I finished the baby sweater in a cotton/linen yarn - the pattern calls for hemp. it was a really fun knit, and the directions were clear.
here is my sweetie modeling it.

she likes it!
a a closer picture to show the wood buttons i found for it:

thanks everyone!
i really enjoyed making the sweater - and i enjoy snuggling this little bundle!  Cheesy
EmilyFlew, I also like the sideways garter stitch...i think it wouldn't be too hard to change the pattern to fit an adult - it also comes in a cardigan.

So adorable, and I love the color.  It's so refreshing to see a baby NOT dressed in pink or blue!  Would you mind telling us what pattern you used?  I'd love to make one for my little one.  Thanks!

That yarn looks great! Your baby is precious--she obviously deserves her wonderful mom who knits her awesome sweaters. Smiley

Ana_Ng, the pattern is from Melanie Falick's Weekend Knitting (an all-around great book of beautiful patterns) and the sweater is called 'baby's pure & simple pullover and cardigan'...and i used a linen/cotton yarn that was on sale at my LYS. i personally do what i can to avoid the pink/blue segregation (i also have a son) but i still have so many pink things i have received as gifts. it's ridiculous - you can't even buy a bicycle that is not gender-specified!

what a happy baby! I'm trying to knit this sweater in stockinette right now for a baby that will be born in a few days... my math seems to be off, but that's what i get for waiting till the last minute and knitting with stress.

Elisha~

Thanks for the tip!  I'll look for the book.

Your baby is soooo cute!  And you're right about the whole gender thing.  It drives me so crazy that I cannot find plain t-shirts for my son that don't have pictures of cars or sports on them.  Grrrr.

Your baby is so gorgeous!!!!!! I love the sweater too. I agree about the choice of colours for baby clothes, its awful here in the UK, everything is such a pale pink and all denim is frilly or embroidered. Roll Eyes

xiuxiu - i'm happy to hear you are planning on trying this pattern - it's very easy, and if you have questions, let me know - it's still fresh in my mind. my daughter wears it all the time (because i dress her, of course). i made the 6-9 month size, by the way, even though she is only 3 months now. she's not a big baby, and it fits, so you may want to factor that in - i didn't want to spend all that time making it only to have it be too small!
