The pattern is Retro Butterick 6582, View C.

http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B6582=x&TI=10002&page=8

I chose teal taffeta for my first formal dress project. I thought it would be a pain to sew, but it wasn't bad. Even the hem wasn't too bad to do.

I did find the bodice a bit tricky and had to cut out a whole new one and do it again. Thank goodness for buying extra fabric! The belt was supposed to be 2" wide, but I couldn't find a buckle big enough.

Underneath I have a tulle petticoat. The first petticoat I've made. Static guard came in handy so the dress and petticoat wasnt' clinging to my legs!

Overall I'm fairly happy with how I constructed it, but the bodice isn't as well fitting as I'd like.

This picture was taken at work, after I got ready for my fiance's staff party.

Oh whoa, I totally sewed this exact same dress, with the exact same fabric for my winter formal

Except I was dissatisfied with the bodice, and completely modified it and lowered the waist line as well

It came together wonderfully, and looks much better as is on you then it did on me!

So pretty! It's really weird, but I actually just made this exact dress 2 days ago (as a gift for my sister). I also had problems with the fit of the bodice. When she tried it on, it "pooched" a bit over the armpits (you know, stuck out sorta) and squished her boobs mightily (although she is rather excessively endowed). Tis a shame, because the dress looks great on a hanger. But anyway, yours looks great, and it looks great on you as well. Nice work! Cheesy

Thanks. With experience I hope that soon I can start modifying parts of patterns I don't like.

I don't think the instructions were all the clear on a couple parts.  If I make this again, I'm going to play around with making a muslin and adjust it a bit.

It's beautiful, and I love the color.  I've made this dress before too.  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=46235.0  I had started a sewalong for this dress, and although people sounded interested, I don't think anyone else got around to making it.  Feel free to post a picture of yours there!  In fact, feel urged.

I'd love to see yours as well.

very nice, I love the swishy sound of taffeta when you walk..Does the bodice have darts? A good reference book for fitting issues and raising and lowering darts is fantastc fit for everybody..theres like 91 of them used for under 3.00..I love this book!! I have to make bust adjustments in every fitted top I make because of an over abundance of bosoms
