Hands up if you're over Twilight!

Has anyone heard of a pattern for a dress like the dress Kaylee wears in "The Message" during her  date with Simon in the "freak tent" and during her introduction scene in "Out of Gas"?

It seems to be some kind of apron dress.  Undecided

I've come close with some of the 70's apron dress patterns on ebay but nothing has quite the right kind of sleeves. I could alter patterns but does anyone know what the technical name for that kind of sleeve is?

Thanks if you can help.  Wink

There aren't even any decent pictures of it on the net!

Hey I know this was posted a long time ago but... I love Kaylee's dress too!

Anyhow you can see from this pic here
http://still-flying.net/images/outofgas/index.php?image=outofgas274.jpg
that it's not an apron dress because it zips up in the back.

The sleeves look like some sort of modified kimono sleeve - basically a big rectangle?

If I can find the right fabric I think I might try to make this dress.

Yeah it was a while ago, but it's nice to get a reply anyway!
I knew it was zipped up the back but I just didn't know how else to describe that square on the front and the fact that it has ties that cinch in the waist.

It is the sweetest thing isn't it? Smiley
Good luck with finding a nice fabric!

oh i see!  sorry!   Smiley

hmm well i was looking online some more, and i discovered that the sleeves might possibly be described as "batwing."

Okay, that's very helpful actually.  Cheesy It will definitely help if I have to modify a pttern.
And thank you for the screen pics of the dress, they are really useful too.

If any of you make this dress you MUST post pictures.  I totally heart how there is so much Firefly stuff on craftster.  Nothing better when two loves of your life mesh :-)

Well if I could lose some weight first... I might make myself one! Otherwise... it ain't gonna be purdy. Lets just say... Kaylee is less endowed that I am so I don't know if that style of dress will work. It will just hang, like a tent from the bustline.  Unless I can fit some pleats or darts at the sides of the front panel...
But I'd like to give it a try. Its just so sweet! Cheesy

I did put together a Jayne costume for a recent Serenity dinner party. That was pretty easy.
Gagh! When I saw the photo ... that one's for blackmailin' ! It's awful!  Tongue

Simplicity 7588.  It's from 1976.  I found it at the thift store today...the pieces for the actual dress part are missing, but those should be pretty easy to draft or steal from another pattern.  And it was 31 cents.  lol...  I think I'm mainly interested in the directions and the sleeves....

Patterns from the Past sells a copy (http://www.oldpatterns.com/robes.html)

I'm going to paraphrase here:

"Pretty soon there won't be room for Crafty folk like us to slip about at all. So here we are on the raggedy edge."

I love my captain.  Grin

That pattern looks like a very close match cyclamen. You might need to make the neckline square and the sleeves a little wider, but that's pretty easy.
