I love the cicadas, and I wanted to make something to celebrate them.  I came up with the idea of making wristbands out of teeshirts while working on a jordy bag, because I really loved the way the handle came out.  Anyways, I've been an avid stenciler for a while, so a lifesize cicada stencil seemed the best way to pay homage to these creepy little buggers.

The orange splotches were supposed to be paint splatters, but it didn't work out as well as I had hoped.  Next time, just polka dots, or I'll use a nonwhite shirt.

And action shot!

That's so cool! I never would've thought of that in a million years. Much cooler than those "Brood X tee-shirts"  Grin
You make them look so cute. (I'm terrified of them even though I know they're harmless  Undecided )

Awww, you don't think those vicious bright eyes are adorable?

I think they're pretty cute, but hey, that's just me.  Better to psych myself up into liking the cicadas than be terrified of them for a month.

Although I may not share your enthusiasm about the critters themselves, this is AWESOME! I love your use of color.

Hey, I still flinch if one of them flies into me!

The website is coming slowly, because I don't know a damn thing about website design, so I have a friend building it for me.  He's very busy though, and since he's doing it for free, I'm last priority.

I'll email you some urls of pictures of my stuff though, but really, try to come to Eastern Market this Sunday, it's a lot of fun.

I want to try a more red orange, since that's truer to the beasts themselves, but I'm also gonna go all Warhol on them and do some crazy colors.  Especially for on colored wristbands.

I'll probably do some on purses too.

Any suggestions for a background paint, other than my pathetic attempt at splatters?  I'd love it to have a more gritty graff feel, and polka dots don't seem to be cutting it.

I like the polka dot contrast wth the strong lines of the cicadas.  I suppose stripes could be an option but maybe that's too obvious of an alternative.  I think hearts would be cool, thereby fully displaying your admiration for the liittle scaries.
