elbow in the spine
« on: December 06, 2005 10:38:43 AM »

Okay, I feel like this should be on the boards somewhere, but I've searched and searched and cannot find what I'm looking for.  I was hoping to knit a stocking, just two flat pieces and sew them together, no turning of heels or DPNs or what-have-yous  Grin
something along these lines:

I can figure out the striping, letters or whatever I need for within the pattern, I just don't know how to make the shape?  can anyone help me out, or point me in the right direction?
thanks!

If you start at the top of the stocking work the ribbing for about 4 inches, then decrease your stitches by half, work the stockinette stripes for about 12 inches then divide the stiches in two by placing a marker at your halfway point. You have to *turn* the heel by making a sort of triangle. You can do this with short rows sort of like a section of Tychus once you have the heel shape knit back across work the foot part like a rectangle for like 5 or 6 inches and then do a decrease on each end to shape the toe. Just make sure that you put the heel for the back on the right side, and the front one on the left side.
