Ok, so I was randoming around, trying to figure out something to do. (I was bored) And then it hit me! Binary things! Any words, sayings, numbers, etc. can be translated from ACSII into binaryto make fun crafts! In fact, anything that uses two different kinds of something is fair game! For example, I wanted to make a scarf using intarsia with two different colours, and weave a message in there but 1) I suck at the knitting and 2) I have no time.

I think bracelets are a fun alternative! Just look on google for 'ASCII to binary" to get yourself a translator, if you can't translate it yourself. Cheesy Bear in mind that each character will be eight numbers long, so you might want to choose a short word. I chose 'geek' and did the 0's in black, and the 1's in green, for that matrixy look. It doesn't show up very well in this picture, but you can vaguely see it under my Internet Corruption Unit bracelet and my little star Smiley.

Btw I figured out how to resize pics. Yay me! I jsut hope they work....*prays*

Oh, and if anyone wants to give the knitting binary a go, please post so i can see how it looks! Cheesy

That's a super cool idea!  There's a building on my old campus (western michigan university), that spells out WMU (or something like that, I couldn't really read it, lol) in the windows on each side of the building.  They were tall narrow windows and were alternated with strips of light colored brick.  It was cool because the windows were in different places in the different rooms.  I think it was the math or engineering building, the computer labs were a brand new different building.  Okay, so that was completely off subject, sorry.   Grin  Anyway, I can't wait to try it out with some beads and make a super secret code bracelet!

FortuneCookie: Those bracelets are so cool. Maybe I can do the binary code in my initals (KRR), & The I.C.U. Bracelet, a total hoot.

Eropunkish: What does his shirt say exactly?

ForevrBee:  It says, "I can type with one hand."

Feel free to interpret whichever way you like.

binary is a good code idea! in high school i went on a morse-code-beading kick and made a lot of coded necklaces. maybe there will be a binary revival.

relatedly, i keep waiting for someone i know to turn 32 so i can make them a geeky robot card that says "happy 10000th birthday."

I believe the building you are thinking of spells out "welcome to western" right now its being used for the math department and then a few other classes that need a space to hold class. Who knows maybe since I'm in love with the movie The Matrix, I'll make a few of those binary items soon.

Yep, BeppyCat and OperatorK have their WMU trivia down pat. It was designed to look like a punch card spelling out "Welcome to Western". The building was the original home to all of Western's computer-y goodness way back in the dark ages (in other words, when I was a student there) when punch cards were used for input/output and storage.

I'd love to see some binary punch card knit scarves but, alas, my attention span is not long enough to do it myself........
