Hey all, I totally heart this forum and have a question for you all...

I am making a few basic hats for holiday gifts, the majority of which are made with the body in stockingette stitch.  I would like to embroider words in homespun-looking cursive lettering (one will be "feminist," another will be "liberal," etc - basically labels that people are afraid of!).

I've never done this on knitted stuff before, and was wondering -- would you recommend that I use yarn or embroidery thread for the lettering?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Pinktalk,
I've only done a little bit of embroidering on knitting, but here's something from one of the other forums:

I think it depends on how thick your yarn is as to whether you decide to use embroidery floss or yarn. I think I'd use yarn since floss might get lost in the mix (unless you're using stuff that's knit up on #2 needles or something like that).

I've had luck in just using split stitch.

Good luck and please post when you're done!  Smiley

Excellent, thanks for the advice.  I was thinking yarn too, but had a moment of insecurity about it last night while I was knitting away at the hat's body.

I noticed the kitty hat the other day and thought it was divine!
