In my marine biology class we are having an algae cook-off, but I'm having a hard time finding something to cook that seems appeitizing enough to tempt picky teenagers to eat. Does anyone have any tried and true algae recipes they could share? Anything would be good, just so long as the algae isn't uber uber rare and hard to get. Thanks.

does seaweed count as algae? i have lots of recipes involving nori. sushi salad always seems to be a hit at potlucks (just mix peeled, chopped cucumbers and other veggies with nori strips, rice vinegar, sesame seeds and a bit of sugar and salt).

hijiki can be snuck into any rice dish if you add a couple of tablespoons to the cooking water.

dulse i usually just eat on salad.

agar-agar is surely an algae, so you could make some kind of vegan gelatin dessert. lemon meringue pie or something. this whole site is agar recipes: http://www.indiaagar.com/html/m0720rec.htm

good luck; that sounds like a really fun cook-off!
