I'm so glad to finally be done with this one.  I started in September and the actual knitting only took about a month, but the getting around to finishing it took forever, partially due to trying to figure out how to go about blocking it in a small apartment with two evil cats, but I finally ended up getting it damp and ironing it to block it.  I finished weaving the ends in on Thanksgiving morning so that I could wear it.

Made out of an alpaca/wool blend I got for cheap on e-bay on size 7 needles.  Pattern from Folk Shawls.

Beautiful!  Just Beautiful!!!

But why did you crop yourself out of the photo?  If I had made that shawl, I would want everyone on Craftster to see my huge smile!!!

My mom took the picture and photography isn't her best talent (also it's from the back, so there would have been bed head involved) Smiley

It actually wasn't that hard - if you can increase and decrease you can knit lace.  You just have to pay attention to the pattern and I've found that having the directions written out helps me more than reading a chart.

your shawl is beuatiful, and now you are my hero.
i actually bought that book just for this shawl, but when i realized how big it was i got scared off. i've made two other shawls from this book, and i'm working my way up... now that i've seen yours i know it's actually possible!
now for the technical stuff- did you make the full square? and how much yarn did it take?

I made the full square and it took about 7 1/2 50g skeins of alpaca/wool blend that I got from e-bay that did not have the yardage listed.

the irish diamonds are pretty.  i'm in the process of finishing a lace scarf in which i repeated the pattern per row (dayflower) and just that is taking me such a very long time.  seeing your shawl is such a boost, b/c something like that would take me forever to complete.
