I'm not sure why Lite Brite hasn't come out with a cool lampshade with different "patterns" to overlay...I know I would play with it all the time!  I also browsed the internet looking for some type of suitable sustitute for a Lite Brite lampshade but wasn't able to find anything.

So, I decided I simply had to have my very own Lite Bright lampshade so I grabbed an old, stained lampshade and my tools.  I used a hammer and nail to create the holes for the pegs and then used a screwdriver to bore them out a little bit.  Then I just snapped those pegs in and they are holding amazingly well.  I assumed I'd be using some type of glue to keep them from popping out all over the place, but they are sticking in really tight.

I couldn't decide on any specific designs or words, so I just did some basic swirls.  I ran out of pegs so I've already been browsing the auction site to get some more.  I'll be browsing the thrift stores for refills, too.  This is the first of many because I have so many ideas for designs.  I'm a Lite Brite fool, I tell ya.

Thanks for any comments!

Update:

Someone asked about painting on the pegs but since I didn't have any type of stained glass paints on hand, I tried some StazOn stamping inks.  I love the effects!  I just basically rolled the pegs over the stamp pad and tried different color combinations.

This is blue and purple...

And SeaGreen which is green and yellow and a little bit of blue...

And Fire with red, orange and yellow...

And I had to try a rainbow one with all of the colors...

The inks that I used...

This is such a great idea!  I loved lightbrite when I was a kid.  I can't believe I haven't thought of this before!   Grin
