Confession:  I have the Canada immigration page open as we speak!  Never been, but have long wanted to, I'm self-employed, adaptable and a hard worker, and I hear it's a big place - sure I could find somewhere I'd be comfortable, especially as I don't look for a lot to make me happy!  Although then I would also have to deal with the idea that I will have abandoned the country of my origins (can't say birth, was born in Germany) when it's in the crapper.  A crapper that it climbed into with considerable enthusiasm but is going to need serious help to climb back out of.  It is a horrible decision on top of a horrible decision, and I also wish I knew what to do.  Sad

"Monday June 27th Checkin

Nope. I was part of a knitting/hobby group before I moved. I've never done a quilting group though. I'm going to join on the shy band wagon. I don't like going places where I don't know anyone else. I will inevitably sit by myself and not talk to anyone.

June 27 check in

No, I haven't. I haven't really met many quilters in real life at all, quilting is not very common in here. The quilters I have met in quilting shops and facebook groups have been acting quite superior about quilting, so I haven't tried to get into any real life group. I really felt like I had to defend myself for using a simple old machine, not having a dedicated quilting room or many costly gadgets and not using a lot of designer fabrics. Quilting stuff is all imported from the US which makes it really expensive in this country. Of course there's nothing wrong with using all these things, I wish I could afford them, but I'm not going to not quilt until I can.

I am in a weekly sewing class though and one of my friends from there is actually working on her first quilt, one is considering it and our teacher has quilted in the past. Maybe sometime in the future I'll have a group of nice people to join me on a quilting retreat!

Immaculata, I never really thought about how fortunate we are here in the US to have such easy access to an abundance of quilting tools and materials! But, it sounds like you at least have the potential for a small, non-elitist, quilt group Smiley
