This is the first thing I've sewn for myself in months!

When my SO got tickets for Macbeth, I decided I needed a dress for the theatre. So, $40 worth of satin later.....

Sally Duct Tape is wearing it, and sitting on a chair because one of us had to model the dress, and the other had to take a picture. And....well....poor Sally, she lost her arms in the war.

Anyway. That gives you a good idea. I was standing in JoAnn's for a good twenty minutes very upset because the color scheme I had first planned out was not going to happen. Then I thought. "Macbeth....blood red. Perfect."

To make it a little more "holiday" looking, I added a pink sash. It super long and ties in a huge bow that just barely keeps itself off the floor when I wear my heels.

I was telling one of my best friends about the dress, and the date and I had this conversation:

"So is this a special date?"
"Well, only so much as I want to wear this dress."
"Oh, really?" (eyebrows raised in disbelief)
"Do you know me at all? Of course it's about the dress!"

Its true. I made the poor boy take me to a fancy restaurant and dress himself all up just so I could make a fancy dress.

oooooo it's quite pretty! I love the color scheme, AMAZING! And it's perfect for Macbeth (is reading it in English right now)

I have a ceremony i need to go to on December 22 and that looks like a great dress to wear for it! How long did it take you?

Wow, it's gorgeous. Those pleats are terrific!
I totally relate with it being about the dress. I always jump at the opportunity to sew beautiful, highly impractical pieces of clothing.

When I see the boy next I shall try to make him take a picture, docilebunny.

The pattern is Vogue 8020. I followed it almost exactly, a rarity for me. I bought the material on Wednesday and the play was Friday, so that gives you an idea of how involved it was. I'd say the pleats gave me the most trouble, I had to iron them to create the pleats, and pin and baste them, but then the skirt was still somehow wider than the bodice, so I had to do it over. If you mind your pleats the first time I bet it could be done in about six or seven hours. The sash was additional, and my own creation, and I also added an underskirt of tulle to help pouf out the skirt. Upon reflection I would have done well to add an underskirt under the tulle underskirt, as it spent a lot of time static-ing itself to my legs.

Oh, and Motleykitten, it was bad luck. I knew the house manager, and she kept telling us how the everyone was calling the play "Mac Death" Also, it was bad luck for me, because i had originally planned to see the new Harry Potter that night. But poor Mr. Potter was up against William Shakespeare, a brand-new Vogue dress, the best sushi restaurant in town, and a rather cute gentleman escorting me to all these things....well, i think we all know what the correct choice is there.

that dress is absoluetely marvelous.
and i think the 'moreexcitedbytheprospectofgettingtomake/wearthedress' thing is a crafty disease. because i almost spent a bajillion dollars to buy an ipod just so i could make a cozy for it.

Thats beauty. I've eye'd that pattern before... but it would not work well on my body type, oh well. You did an amazing job.

That. Is. Beautiful. !!!! I really like it!! I love the colors and it looks absolutely fabulous!! You've a wonderful job sewing it, pleats and all! I am very very tempted to go to Joann's and find this pattern, because I'm really lovin' it! (Wow....I really do overuse the exclamation point don't I? hahaha)
