It's so cold out here, and alpaca is so delicious, and the idea of a bright pink wimple was so funny...I couldn't help myself.

That is fabulous!!  I have a question though, is it really that warm? 

I'm in WI and we get some pretty frigid temps when it's windy in the winter, and I can't wear hats (seriously, doesn't matter the style of hat, I look like I came off the short bus).  So, I was thinking of knitting a cowl-like thing to substitute a winter hat.  Love this pattern the best out of the ones I've seen, but I'm just not sure if it'll be warm enough because of the lace.

flamgirlant - I was worried about that too - I thought it was kind of silly to make something to keep warm with lots of little holes in it.  instead of using a double YO for the flared eyelets, I used a single one and just worked two stitches in it the next row, creating a slightly more solid fabric.  Plus, the alpaca is very lofty and traps a lot of heat.

All that said, it's still prolly not a dead-of-winter item - but it feels pretty good on right now, on a gloomy rainy day with an ambient temperature of 42 degrees.

this is beautiful.  I swear I am not a stalker, but I remember you mentioned it on your blog a while ago and thought the pattern was beautiful before you even knit it up.  I went to the only LYS w/in a 100 mi radius that carries heartstrings patterns and they don't carry this particular one!! I could buy it online, but $5.00 shipping? no thanks...

I was thinking of trying to make one up using a lace I like, instead and a pattern for the plain cowl from last minute knitted gifts.
this seems like such a nice accessory, especially because I can only wear black or white at work, and it gets cold! (scarves, hats, etc can be any color -- I already asked!!)

Beautiful! I have this same pattern. I need to get some solid colored yarn to make it. I thought about using some hand-dyed sock yarn I have, but I don't think the colors would let the lace show very well.
