Go Down in Flames, only to rise from the ashes...

My grandmother is 100 years old and lives in a nursing home.  Undecided  So finding gifts for her is a bit of a challenge.  So I decided to make her a blanket to wear on her lap in her wheelchair.   I am VERY proud of how it turned out!!

When my Grandma was "younger" (She turned 70 the year I was born!) she made me an Afghan.  So I know she will understand the effort put into this!  I doubled crochet the burgundy, and did a half double crochet on the cream.

Oh, its also my first Afghan ever.

Excuse the camera strap in this close up of my stitches.

Thank you for looking!!

Nice job!  I think that is what is usually called a lapghan (an afghan just for your lap).. I bet she'll love it.

Is that supposed to look like the Latvian flag, or is that just a coincidence?

Shocked Yikes!  Any resemblance to any country's flag is coincidence!

Grandma just likes red colors and I thought cream was nice with this shade.  I was going to do it all red, but decided that was not as interesting as this is.  Plus the strips have to be on the bold side because her eyes are not that good any more.

Edited because I can't spell.  Roll Eyes

If you make a nice border in the cream it would finish it off and maybe not look so latvian? I didn't know it looked like the flag but if you are worried about it, a simple scallop would make it look really pretty and give it a super finished look.  I never trimmed my stuff when I first started and now I trim everything... just makes it look, well, trim.

I think she is going to love it.  If she used to crochet she will know what it took to make it..
if you have extra yarn left over, you could make her a shawl to keep her shoulders warm too... okay... then you could make booties... then ... then... oh geez.  It just doesn't stop!

I think she will love it!  great job.

I wouldn't worry about the Latvian thing. Odds are, your Grandma won't know, and even if she does, it's beautiful! Any Latvian or non-Latvian Grandma would be thrilled to receive such a special gift!!

If only I had my grandma to do this for.  I miss her so much.  I know your grandma will love her blanket more than you will ever know.  I wouldn't change a thing.

 Cheesy
The reason I mentioned the flag thing was because I'm Latvian and I was excited that someone crocheted the Latvian flag!

Oooo nice lapghan! I've yet to finish the first blanket I ever made...so good job  Grin

I personally woulden't care with it resembling a country's flag.

Your Grandma will love it.  Any chance you can get and post a pic of Grandma enjoying her new 'ghan?  I'd love to see her with it.
