Crafting my pants off!

View Profile WWW available for personal swaps
« on: November 16, 2005 09:57:48 AM »

I really want to start felting, but I live in a smaaall town with no resources, so I have to get everything online. I'd prefer a kit, and I REALLY want this kit: http://www.bearycheap.com/info/felting1.html  but it would be shipping from Australia. I live in the US, so it would take too long/too much money to ship.

Does anyone know of any similar needle felting kits I could buy? I would really love one that came w/ instructions for cute things (like those bears!) but it isn't necessary if anyone has any great beginner book suggestion.

Thanks!!

EDIT: oops, wrong link! I corrected it.

The link goes to crocheted animals?

I started needle felting just a couple weeks ago and have become totally addicted.  I bought a kit to make a belt/skinny scarf at a craft fair from a company called Decadent Fibers.  Their website is not yet operational--just a place holder at http://www.decadentfibers.com, but they do take phone orders.  THey had kits for wonderful pumpkins, sunflowers, other flowers, and the scarf I made.  With the leftover roving, I've since made several flower pins, a heart pin, a scarf pin, and two teensy teddies.

If I can figure out how to post a photo, I'll put one up for you.

The women who run DF are incredibly cool, and they do take phone orders unitl the website is operational (they hoped that would be by Thanksgiving).  Chris 518-758-8670, or Pat 518-767-9430.

I bought my needle felting kit form an Ebay seller.  I am in the UK so I will provide a link to his ebay shop and I am pretty sure he ships internationally if necessary!  It isn't a cheap kit but youget 200g + merino in all different colours which you can choose if wanted.  On top of this you get an instruction sheet, 10 needles (5x 38gauge, 5x 36gauge) & a huge block of foam.  Anyway here is the link:

Hope that helps someone!

ArrghMatey - When I read your post, I had to read it twice.

Because Australia is a small country (we have the same population as California), I often have to search high and low for Aussie online companies rather than US.
I usually face the postage cost problem the other way  Wink

That said, I've often found that the postage out of Australia, seems to be cheaper than the postage costs into Australia. A package under 250gms costs around $8 to send anywhere in the world.
Did you check the postage costs at this website?

oh geez.

i become instantly gung-ho to start needle felting, but then was like "nope, not enough time! Not another craft!" I was using the excuse that I couldn't get any of this stuff anyway...

Now your link.

My inner craft person thanks you. Grin

I just got the kit from sticky wickets as a gift from my sister.  (I dropped some hints).

So I'll let y'all know how it works for someone who has never done needle felting before.

Am I strange that I am totally looking forward to jabbing something repeatedly with sharp needles?
