OK, this is my first post on Craftster. I've loved coming to this site for inspiration, and really enjoy seeing everyone's projects.

I've wanted to make cool stockings since I got married, but this year was the first time I actually knew how to sew and had a sewing machine (just started sewing classes last spring). So here are my first attempts at stockings:

The kids' stockings - my daughter is about as girly as it gets and absolutely loves anything pink and sparkly. I messed up on the toe, but can fix that. My son's stocking (he's 16 months old) is made from the blankets we swaddled him in as an infant.

I finished mine tonight. I had a blast making it, and I love it (mistakes and all). I can honestly say it is the first stocking I've ever had that I love.

Now I just need to get started on my husband's, and I also have an idea for another just-for-fun stocking if I have the time. I'll post those when they are done.

what a great idea to use those blankets! I have some of the kids old blankets I can't bear to throw away, I never thought about using them like that! awesome!  you did a great job. I like pink and sparkly too Wink
for my son's first Christmas I made him a huge stocking with his name right down the front, it was awesome I was very proud. then it "accidentally" got thrown out( =long story). now they( son and daughter) just have nice store bought ones. Maybe someday I will make them new ones.

Wow - thanks for the nice compliments you guys!

OK, I did use a pattern - McCalls M2991 - it was very easy, and I've actually started on some other "themed" stockings for friends. I modified for mine a little because I wanted a two-toned cuff. What ended up happening, though, is that the cuff comes a little low and partially covers one of the holly leaves. No biggie, but I notice it. And I notice the totally crooked embroidery - but that's no bid deal, either - it was my first time! I also used little jewel thingies for the holly berries b/c I thought they looked cool.

I'm finishing two more in the next two days for friends, and then I'm moving on to working on one for my husband - it will be a Star Wars one.

These dang stockings are freakin' addictive!  Smiley
