First time I've EVER followed a pattern... I found it last night on here and decided what the heck, let's sit up all night crocheting hats.

The first hat I made I followed the pattern exactly, and I finished and thought it was a *wee* bit short, so the next 3 hats I added another row...

Those are the colors I made...

...and what they look like on...

I know they're really basic and all, but I'm so excited that I actually followed a pattern... I've known how to crochet for a year and a half now and earlier this week I finally sat down and learned how to read the patterns...

Of course, I don't know what I'm going to do with four hats, but... one never acknowledges this while creating... ey?

Great looking hats!

Looks like you have your holiday gift-getting all done. And soooo early too, lucky you.

Hey cool. Amazing job for first time using a pattern. I usually start with a pattern and then degenerate into improvising. Tongue

I found a link to a pattern somewhere on here... but I can't find it anymore, so I'll just type it out for you with the alterations I made after making the first one.

It was originally an M hook with 2 strands of ww yarn, but I didn't do that...

~~~~~
K Hook, 1 strand ww yarn
1: ch 3, 11 dc in first ch. join in first dc.
2: ch 2, 2 dc in same st as join, 2 dc in each st around, 1 dc in same space as the ch 2, join in first dc
3: ch 2, 2 dc in same st as join, (1 dc in next st, 2 dec innext st) around. join in first dc.
4 through 12: ch 2, 1 dc in ea st around, join in first dc.
13: sc in ea st around, join in first sc.
fasten off and weave in ends.
~~~~~

And thanks to numerous long car rides today, I now have 6 hats...

which you can see if you go to http://www.freewebs.com/infeatheredeyes/crafts.html

and of course I can't follow the same pattern for long without adding something, so this brings me to...

Hat #8 this weekend

WARNING: conceitedly ugly color combination below.

I aplogize for the fact that you can barely see the hat, but when one's digital camera has a half-blacked out screen from a certain father dropping it, it's rather difficult to see what you're taking pictures of until you've uploaded it and decided you're too lazy to take better ones...
