Monday Check In!

Hey all! Please check in by typing "May 2 Check In" and then answering/joining in with the check-in discussion question (you have through the end of the week/Sunday to be counted for this week's check in, but please put "May 2" for my tracking purposes).

Today's Discussion Question: Do you do any charity quilting? For whom? What's your go to pattern if you have one?

I recently quit my do.Good Stitches quilting group that I'd been a part of for 3-ish years because it was getting too expensive and took up a little more time than I wanted. I've also been going to my guild's monthly charity sew, but it's a weekday event and I'm a working girl again!  I used to donate to Quilts for Kids, that might be a better option now for my time availability!

Today's Discussion Question: Do you do any charity quilting? For whom? What's your go to pattern if you have one?

I have in the past for a local charity that gave quilts to people were having a hard times, house fires, floods, illness in the family. Most of the ones I make to give are child size twin size or smaller.
I like to use a simple block like pinwheels for I can use a lot of colors and they blend together well. I also like to do fuss cut blocks and call it an I spy quilt for kids, using bits of large print and themed fabrics.

You say "scientist or artist?" like they're mutually exclusive.

May 2 check-in

I've done a little for Project Linus - one lady in my quilting group is an organiser for them and runs Linus days every so often.  If I see suitable fabric for the Linus quilts, I often pick it up and donate it to her - she's always in need of gender-neutral or boyish fabrics.  I haven't done enough Linus quilts to have a typical pattern for them, though!

I haven't done a charity with quilting. I've looked at some, but have never really done it.

May 2 check in

I like making small baby quilts.  I mostly make them for the grandkids of my friends now.  I used to make quilts regularly for Quilt for Kids.  I sort of got burned out.  Once, I really hated the backing fabric that they sent so I substituted another nice fabric.  I actually got contacted and told not to do that even though I used the backing fabric to make a second quilt.  I thought that was a bit off-putting, so I stopped sending them quilts.  Now I donate locally...my neighbor across the street collects fabrics and small quilts for local hospitals and children in need.

I typically donate to organisations for auction or raffle. Alzheimers Society, OSPCA, local fundraisers for splash pad, Community Living. Anyone who asks really...
I don't usually have a go to pattern.

May 2nd Check-in:

I haven't done any charity quilting, but it's something to think about for the future! I'd have to find a go-to pattern (like the quilt-as-you go strip quilts), and find a good charity (like Quilts for Kids), and then, find the time!

May 2 Check in

I've done quilts for Kids as well in the past and just use their basic pattern most of the time.  I got sort of burnt out, but I'll probably do more later
