I had this awesome grey knit fabric that I felt had to be used so I made this skirt and hat out of it.. The skirt is a a little too small for me so I have to actually wear it up AT my waist which is how my mom says skirts are supposed to be worn, but I don't care. I don't wear skirts that high up, so I'm going to sell it. I wish the picture was a little better.. sorry!

The hat and the skirt are super cute.  I love skirts I believe that skirts are the sexiest peice of clothing you can own, I wouldn't mind that skirt.

That whole outfit is so cute.  I don't like my skirts up high either but it really does look nice.  But I guess if you're like me, its more because of the way that it feels than looks.  I'm jealous though.  Its so cute.

They're gorgeous! I especially like the skirt. Did you use a pattern for them?

I love both the skirt and beret! What book are you referring to? I must have missed the thread you're talking about...

that's beautiful, it looks like one of those travelling sets that girls used to wear in the 1930's.

yeah, they did. i went to Kinko's and printed out the pattern in different sizes, glued them to posterboard, and am ready to start crankin' 'em out tomorrow. i am a SUCKER for 70s crafting books. i've got a ton of my own, plus a bunch of old crafting magazines like Workbasket that have tons of cute stuff that's easy to make (and in style again).

It's just made from a simple pattern..I could go look up which one it is in a couple days if you want, right now I"m painting my room and it's full of tarps and paint stuff and I can't get to my patterns.

the pattern I used for the skirt was Simplicity #5198. It's really easy to make, but if you buy it make sure you check the measurements for the sizes and not just glance at the size #'s.. I am usually a size 6 but this made me make a size 10 to fit me, and that was the biggest size in the pattern I got, so I nearly couldn't use it. so watch out!

Not just the library either. I recently found out that my local second-hand book shop stocks many old sewing and pattern books.
