You said historical home and I thought of your bridesmaids standing there with hand fans, what's the connection? Who the hell knows but I think it would be pretty. You could even incorporate feathers if you are liking that idea. I like the velevet bags but think that the guests may spend the ceremony pondering either, 'what's in those bags?' or 'why did the bridesmaids all bring their purses to the wedding?'Just my opinion though.

Maybe something liket this without all that black fluffy stuff. (you could buy cheap paper fans and attach the feathers yourself...)

This website also has tons of inspiration. http://www.ideco.com/fans/classic2.htm

I love those fans... and they could be made in any color!
LMAO about the kittens too.

What about...some form of origami?  If there were birds or something.. on dowels covered in ribbons & crystals or something hanging down.  You could do the papers in the colors of your wedding & sprayed with shimmer maybe.

I dunno...might be weird..but cookie or candy bouquets or baskets.  They could hand them out on their way back down the aisle.  Tee hee.  If the baskets had sprigs of fall leaves or something...they could be quite lovely.

YOU could TOTALLY make crystal bouquets...they have KITS!  Maybe you & your bridesmaids could make an evening of it... weddings & crafts, what better?  http://www.weddingdayoriginals.com/Make_Crystal_Bouquet_Kit.asp  I think these would be awesome...they remind me of the crystal shimmers on fresh snow.  Or... here is one in fall colors Smiley  http://www.porcelainroses.com/porc366x.jpg

I know you don't want flowers...but these are cute.. orchid baskets (awful crafty, too!)  http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=A21125113722&keywordID=150&keywordType=2&parentID=527

Use plastic tubes & fill with candy, marbles, dried flowers, leaves, etc... use ribbons to make the "bouquet" at the top & dangling down...then wrap some of the ribbons in a criss cross fashion around the tube for design.

How about an herbal bouquet?  They can have a lot of meaning...depending on the herbs incorporated http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_herbs/article/0,,HGTV_3595_1388241,00.html

Ok... that's enough.. I get too excited about these threads, lol.

Each attendant could carry an object that is somehow significant for the couple and place them on a "past & future" table near the front...

How about bunches of tree branches sprayed silver and tied with a nice ribbon?... or you could spray them to match your colors as well. I also like the idea of herbs... but I'd just do small bunches of rosemary or something, tied with ribbon...it'll be fragrant, but not so frilly and much easier to do. Good luck!

how bout the attendees be asked to write a wish for the two of you down to go in the pouches... maybe when they get to the house. then they can be given to each person as they begin to walk down the isle...

i just like the idea of people giving you wishes that you can read later...

and i also wanted to add i liked the idea of peacock feathers

It may be too early in the year for this but what about a muff?  That way they can have something for their hands, and it would be warm, since at least where I am it is already getting cold.
Everyone else also has amazing ideas.  I don't know I have always wanted a muff.  I was a silly little girl.

I know what I would have wanted as a bridal attendant... and that would be a glass of champagne... ah... if only I could have carried that down the aisle instead of those stupid flowers- and I'm only half kidding.
