I would love to know if anyone else would be interested in a choliday cookie swap! I am excited to make a bunch this year...we could each make  4 dozen and send a dosen to 4 different people...then, in the end we would have 4 dozen cookies that were different. the only requirements I can think of is that is must be US only and that the cookies MUST be something special...decorated or difficult to make (like biscotti) or something to distinquish them from any random holiday cookie you can get at the grocery store. we could have them mailed so that they arrive a week before x-mas so they can be consumed all week long to get into the spirit! so...anyone intersted??

This is a very interesting idea to me.  Do cookies mail well?  I have never tried to mail food before.

I used to mail cookies from Ohio to Sanfrancisco all the time...they sent well...you just have to write fragile on the box and pack them well...hope the mailperson takes care of your package...but cookies aren't going to get stale or anything the few days it takes in transit. at least that's the experience I've had.

I love this idea, although I don't make any fancy decorated cookies... I'm a fan of the "scoop and drop" cookies, mainly because I've recently discovered my love for a cookie scoop.

My cookies are holiday-flavored (-themed?), though.  Would that count?

of course! I love my cookie scoop too...such a wonderful invention! I was a baker for years and it was the one thing I took from the job that I love-well and all the knowledge! my favorite holiday cookies are scoope cookies also...but there's a special surprise inside to make em special. mmm...my mouth is watering just thinking about sweets now!

I make the same two cookie recipes each year, and I'm CRAVING one of them right now...

The swap I'm in ends 11/16, so I'd love to sign up as long as I'm able to at the time!  Let me know if this happens.

Also, would it be four dozen, as in four varieties of one dozen each, or four dozen of one variety?  or our pick?

well-that would be up to you...i think the easiest way would be to make 4 dozen of the same kind and in return you end up with 4 different kinds from other people. btw...I used the number 4 as a guess...when people start signing up I will probably put them into small groups...4-5 people...so depending on how many people sign up is how many cookies you'll have to make. sound good?

girlwonder, this is a grand idea!  A cookie swap...yum! Smiley  I would love to do this swap but baking 4 dozen cookies and sending them out to 4 different people takes quite a bit of organization (especially during the holidays)!  Is there any chance of a mini cookie swap, where you bake 2 (or 4!) dozen cookies and send it out to one person?  Also, it might be good thing to try and pair folks up by distance (same state or neighboring states) so that the cookies arrive quickly Smiley  Just a few thoughts...

I am so excited for this.

My recipe makes 6 dozen... so looks like I'll have to cut it down a bit, or suffer the consequences of having 9000 cookies in the house!

PM me when this swap happens--I love this idea!

Hell, I just love cookies!  (as evident by my waistline...  Wink)

that would be a good idea...since we're mailing them...I was trying to do a smaller version of those church cookie swaps where everyone makes a bunch and then everyone takes a couple of each kind of cookie...and then you have all kinds of awesome cookies to eat...but I would be ok with doing a one on one swap for this!

I like the idea of mailing to multiple people so you get to try lots of different kinds.  I am really excited for this swap!

I would try to make sure they GOT there by December 15... from a lot of mail experience around the holidays, things that normally take 3-5 days can take 10-15 days.

Maybe mail by the 10th?

I want to make cookies too! 4 dozen is a little too much for me. 2 dozen would be better with sending to one ot two people. I would have to ship Priority so they stayed fresh and I can't afford more than 1-2 people. I'm excited. I can bake vegan stuff too for any vegans who want to join.

I feel the same way, but I totally understand that receiving a variety of cookies sounds like a good idea too.  I wanna make cookies but if everyone wants to do 4 dozen and send them out to 3 or 4 people, I'm cool with that.  Perhaps we could start a separate mini holiday cookie swap for folks who wanna do 2 dozen cookies, with one partner?

I like that idea of a seperate mini swap. Then girlwonder doesn't have to change her swap idea. What do you think girlwonder?

well...I think I would actually be ok with this being a one on one swap. I think doing a big round robin is a good idea but might be better left the local swaps...holiday shipping is a drag and we may not want a TON of cookies floating around the postal system a week before x-mas. so...I'm thinking with all the suggestions taken into consideration that I am going to make it a one on one swap...this (i think) will make everyone happy. Me Included!! sound good?

maybe we could have it be atleast 3 different types of cookies to our craft swap partner, that way we are still getting a variety, but only sending one package. it wouldnt have to be 3 dozen either it could be broken up into however many cookies that is decided.

and the recipe sent too sounds awesome, i think if we didnt send recipes, as soon as we all got our cookies we would be PMing away asking for recipes anyway!  Cheesy

I think your idea is good girlwonder. Maybe we can decide with eachother if we want more than one cookie, how many batches... I'm personally not attached to receiving 3 different types. As long as chocolates involved I'm good! Thanks for organizing, this is going to be fun!

Okay, I decide to bail on this one after all.   Embarrassed  I have too much to do for the holidays, and after the pigging out I did over Halloween,  I don't think it woud be wise for me to have a half dozen cookies in the house, tempting me.  Sorry!
