I'm still keeping away the babies, but now, in style! (Embellished BC Pill Case)

So, here's my entry for the new life for old jeans craft challenge.  Right after I saw the challenge I decided I wanted to do it, but at first I couldn't think of something fun and original that I would actually like to make.  Then, suddenly, an idea just ocurred to me.

So in case you haven't figured out what this little bit of my old pair of jeans is, it's...

An embellished birth control pill case!



I had about a billion of the cases laying around since I get a new one every time I fill my prescription.  Along with it, I get the little pamphlet about how you should buy one of their special cases that has some lame picture printed on it.  I decided it would be way more fun to make my own.

To make it, I first glued the denim down to the case.  For embellishments I glued on a few oblong pearl beads, a scrap of ribbon, and a beautiful handmade ceramic button (I just pulled out the wire toggle loop in the back so it would lay flat).  I then painted around the edge of the case to keep the denim and ribbon from fraying.

Cute and functional!

This is an extremely cute and original idea! ... Not to mention functional...

It took me some seconds to realize what it was, since mine come in rectangled strips.

I gotta do that!  When I went on a retreat a while ago, I got some odd looks, and these would keep them away!  I was waiting for someone to do something for this BC case.  Great job!

The first brand I used came in rectangular strips (Yasmin) but when I changed to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo I was secretly so excited because the case seemed to hold lots of crafting possibilities.

When I switched to the Patch, I was all excited because it came in a hard case, which my Yasmin did not. 

Now, however, I am Patch and all other BC free, as I'm trying for baby...

ahh thats sweet!
i too suffer from the rectangular bc cases. sigh. they're cardboard too.
i'm totally the kind of gal who would switch brands just for the fancy cases... and i DO need more pills... *schemes*
anyway. back to the challenge:
i love anything with ribbon and beads, so i'm sold! great job!

I love this!  I used to get Orthotricyclen, but then my copay went up to $25 and I already pay $75 for my other meds so I switched to the generic brand ($10).  It's in a yellow square case, not as sturdy as those pink ones.  I tried putting stickers on my old one, but they'd always come off.  And I told the pharmacist not to keep giving me compacts because I always reused the same one, but they gave me a new one anyway.
Great job.  Maybe I can make my yellow one fun, too.
