Originally I had planned to do a floorlength gown, but after working with denim for an hour I opted for a skirt instead.  This is my first real skirt project that I eyeballed, no pattern or nothing.  I was inspired by a gap skirt I liked.  My roommate's dad gave us twenty pairs of jeans so I had plenty to work with.  I used a denim jacket, and a couple pairs of jeans.  I used the buttons on the jacket as closure on the back of the skirt and as decor on the top front.  I cut up 4 inch strips, sewed them together, and a triangularish band on top.
