I didn't realize until it was up that my cheapo bamboo shade I bought at Ikea was see through.  I really liked how it looked in the bathroom though.  I bought some indoor/outdoor ribbon and randomly wove it through every other row  to add a bit of privacy.  I hot glued the ends of the ribbons to the cross slats at the top and bottom and it has been holding up great, and given that it is indoor/outdoor ribbon the steam from the shower hasn't affected the ribbon either.  http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v209/norsgoebel/bambooshade.jpg

I have those exact curtains in my bedroom, and sadly I didnt realize they were see-through...  It took my brother coming home early, running into my room, laughing his ass off, telling me he could see me dancing (alone in my room, complete with air guitar..i know, i know) from the street!

excellant idea!  I have some purple crushed velvet (don't ask) strips that will work..thanks for the idea!

...But you can still totally see thru it. I don't think 4 small bits of ribbon are going to make it harder to see anything...sorry.
It's just not covering enough of the shade.
If you really want privacy, w/o loosing the bamboo look, get a sheet in a color you like. Cut a piece of it out the same size or maybe a tad smaller than your shade is, and put it directly behind it in the window.  That way people outside will just see the sheet/bamboo thru the sheet, and not you going to the bathroom/stripping to take a shower, and you'll see your bamboo shade that you love.
