Hello- Ahem...my first post in the art section (*coughs nervously*)
I'm not sure if this is the right area for this..but...I found these amazing photos in a drawer at my parents' house. They are pix of my grandma as a young and fun college girl, and some other misc really old family pix. I was really close to my Grandma and wanted to do something special with them. Meanwhile...I also had a vintage birdcage that I wasn't sure what to do with. So...I was looking at a lot of Joseph Cornell and wanted to do some boxes or 3D collage, and I came up with this. I sandwiched the photos in glass, backed with beautiful hand made papers (from the art store..no credit there) and tied them up with wires and beads, and hung them in the cage, (painted black to look more iron and less shabby chic) along with a few other family-symbolic items (an overexposed roll of film, a projector bulb, some candles and an ornament) and..voila! I'm pretty pleased with it, although it was hard to get a good picture...What do you think?

Thanks! I was kind of playing with 2 ideas: that it is sort of like a "spirit house", ie a place for her spirit to reside in my house, and also the idea that as a talented, brilliant woman she lived in a time when she wasn't really free to pursue her ambitions, and I think she was always a bit frustrated by that (caged). She was an artist and taught my dad to love art, especially photography, hence the film & bulb. I always feel like it's slightly unfinished though.

that is a really pretty idea, very creative. =) and if it feels unfinished maybe you could add alittle something to it whenever  you find something you think would go good in there =)

That is really cool! Especially since I have one of those badboys collecting dust at moms house. Guess I know what to do with it now! Excellent

That is fantastic, I love it Smiley It kind of reminds me of Christian Boltanski's work, and he often uses different lights with/behind his photographs/installations, maybe that's something to play with?
I love old birdcages and old photographs, this is right up my alley!
