This brooch is fast to make and really low-tech.  Thought I'd post it here for anyone looking to make a quick gift for a knitter.  It looks especially cute attached to a hand-knit bag.

It's made from 2 toothpicks, 2 beads, and single-ply yarn, with a safety pin sewn to the back.  I glued the stitches on the needle so they wouldn't slip off.

EDIT: Forgot to add - it was hard for me to knit with the toothpicks because they weren't smooth, so instead I used the smallest needles I had, then slipped the stitches from the needles to the toothpick.  Much, much quicker that way!

very cute. I made something similar once for the front of an invitation to a knitting group. It was kinda hard knit that small. I never thought to make a pin that way. Great idea.

That's really cute, but I would have to make it for myself or my grandma. I only have muggle friends.

The brooch fits nicely in a watchmaker's case (the 70mm size, from Lee Valley Tools, here).

Cool!

I saw somethign similar to this in a knitting shop the other day, selling for big bucks. But they were earings and a necklace of a bit of knitting in grey-silverish little needls. Very interesting.

I have also made something similar. I was bored, so I took the tineyest bit of leftover sock yarn and wound it into a ball. They I cut of the ends of wooden skewers (for some reason this house never has tooth picks when you need them...), stuck them through, and glued two really small buttons to the top of them. I also somehow wound the yarn around an old brownie star pin, then glued just to be safe. There you have it, a cute little knitting pin! Only problem, buttons fell off even though I hot glued them, and then they were lost b/c there so small. Here is a bad picture of it.

OH! That is so cute! Shocked I have to make myself one now! (I don't have any friends or family who knit. And I don't know how to make something like that crochet related... don't know where to find something that looks like a small hook.) But yeah, that is soooo cute.Cheesy
