I asked this on another thread, but I guess it was kinda dead. Would coffee beans be okay for a filler? I rather like the smell of coffee, and they're about the same size as corn kernels...
im sure that would work...as long as you dont get it wet, other wise it would probably turn the material brown
that would smell soooo good though maybe put some vanilla bean in there also...

I can answer the coffee bean thing. Don't use them, esp. if you're giving the pack as a gift. I made one, and the second time I heated it up,
it caught fire
(<2 min, may have been 90 seconds). I knew I'd need to put a cup of water in w/ it eventually, but the second time? I also didn't like the weight of it, compared to the barley I've been using, but that's secondary to the fire thing.
Rice smells like cooked rice the first several times, which I don't mind, but it drives my husband nuts. The barley has been the favorite so far. Flax seed is on my list to try.

I made a beautiful one with your pattern last night. I bought 5 yards of this lovely spring time/bees/flowers/dragonflies, for 88 cents a yard at jo annnes, but when i got it home, i realized it had pink ribbons for breast cancer. NOt a big deal, but you cant exactly put that on a little girls dress....so i made alot of the covers out of that material, and really soft baby fleece in all pastels for my bags. I used rice, and herbal tea bags. They small sooooo sweet !

Sounds pretty! Be careful if you used fleece (I wasn't sure if you meant baby flannel or super-soft fleece). Since it's made out of plastic, it can catch fire in the microwave. But I've had zero issues w/ 100% cotton flannel.
Know what you mean about the ribbon pattern. Doesn't exactly work for a little girl! It's good that you had something else you could use it for, b/c that's a great price.

Had never thought of the herbal tea bags- love the idea- and I have some I like the smell of but not the taste of-
I have a fairly large one (~36"x18") my sister got for me- it's flax and lavender in a fuzzy purple pillowcase- I take it out of the case to heat, the really nice thing is that it's so large and thick I don't need to heat it all the time, I can often just throw it over my knees if I wake up achy in the middle of the night and it does it's magic anyway by its weight and size

Question: Did you just put one tea bag in there? Did you do anythig special to it? I've been making these, and love to give them as gifts, but I've been trying to figure out how to add fragrance to them. THANK YOU for the wonderful idea!
