I found this vintage dress on the clearance rack at Goodwill a couple months ago and fell in love with the fabric.  I was planning to line a bag with it, but then I got to thinking that if it fit me, I'd wear it.  When I got it home, I noticed that it wasn't a dress like I thought, it was a horrible skort/culottes thingy cleverly disguised as a dress.  I hate culottes and skorts with a passion!!  Make up your mind, you are either a skirt or shorts, NOT both Tongue
Anyway, it sat in my to-do pile for a long time, until this morning I finally took it out and made it into a skirt!

Before:  (you can't see the shorts part in the picture, but it was like a skirt in the back with shorts underneath, and in the front it was split like shorts and had a huge pleated part that came together to try to cover it, ugh.)

I'm really proud of myself because this is my first reconstruction other than t-shirts.  I wasn't sure I would be able to do it, but I managed! I even put elastic in the waistband, haha.  ^_^

Thanks!  Yes that fabric is the best...I have a little bit left over from the top of the dress and the shorts part I removed, and I think I will line a bag with it like I originally planned, hehe.

It's not hard to fix that problem, keighley, so you should rescue that cute 80's dress!  If it's made just like the one I did, it shouldn't be too hard.  Heck if I can do it anyone can, lol.

I too would have loved to find that material.  You did a good job on the skirt.

As always, very cute!  Nice score on the material too!  Is it a satin or more like a cotton?  I can't tell.

archer:
Thank you!  The material is very soft, I think it's a cotton/poly blend, but it does have a satiny sheen to it.
