This is more of a fix born out of necessity than a project.

The mechanism attaching our bathtub plug to the lever you pull to open/close it rusted out in our house. I ended up pulling the plug all the way out, along with the rusted bits.

Originally, I was thinking of buying one of those rubber plugs when I looked closely at the old bathtub plug and realized I could take it apart and get rid of the old rusted attachment.

That was easy and at that point, it was perfectly usable, but a royal PITA to pull out. So I used some silicone caulk and stuck four glass "marbles" to it. (I though of adding a decorative wire handle, but thought it would get gunked up.) The marbles add just enough of a grip to allow you to easily pull it out.

One of the marbles has since come off (need to put it back on), but the rest are holding up. So easy and saved me a trip to the hardware store.

That is genius!  We have the same thing at our apartment.  I just may buy an extra plug to decorate!
