If you're like me, as soon as the weather starts getting cool you're cranking up the Christmas tunes.

Unfortunately I'm running out of hip remakes.

Relient K- Anything from Deck the Halls, Bruise your Hand
Rilo Kiley- Xmas Cake
Fall Out Boy- Yule Shoot Your Eye Out
Something Corporate- Forget December
Phantom Planet- Winter Wonderland
The Matches- December is for Cynics
NFG- Ex Mas
Blink 182- I Wont be Home for Christmas
Weezer- Christmas song
Eisley- Winter Song
Simple Plan- My Christmas List

Add to the list please! I'm in desperate need of sing alongs [you can only sing deck the halls so many times  Wink]

Nothing beats going to Denny's at 10 pm with Becoming The Archetype and sharing a milkshake with Seth. Nope, nothing.

Death Cab For Cutie do a good cover of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
umm check out anything off of the Bright Eyes Christmas album (It has religious carols as well as Blue Christmas)
Damien Rice does a beautiful silent night
Wham (or you could use the Jimmy Eat World cover of it) Last Christmas
Jimmy Eat World- 12.23.95
Everclear- I Will Be Hating You For Christmas

that's all i've got. I made a similar CD for my sister last year cause she was kind of bummed during the holiday season (and used all of the songs on my list and some on yours) and she loved it. which reminds me i need to burn her a new copy because hers got stolen when her car was broken into.

OK, this may not be "hip" but it's pretty cool.
I have the Christmas with The Rat Pack album and it's awesome.

OK, well, I'm not hip (not usually, anyway) but there's a whole bunch of Christmas albums by a rock guitarist who's name escapes me.  (i'll ask my hubby when he gets home.  He knows it.)  The guy did a Christmas album one year as a joke and it was so good and so popular he's done a bunch more, and it's really quite cool.  Also, I love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but as I said, I'm not hip.  Hey, at least it isn't Manheim Steamroller, which I'm ashamed to admit is from my part of the country.  But we also gave the world 311 and Johnny Carson, so I guess we're somewhat vindicated.

Hip I'm not, but sap I am, and I always recommend John Denver and the Muppets.  I don't like John Denver but I LOVE that album.  There's just something about Animal singing "Won't Go" at the top of his voice along with "Please bring us some piggy...er.. that's figgy...pudding" that I love.  Or Janice singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town.  Cheesy

Edited to add:
Oh yeah, and I really like to play the Jethro Tull album "Songs from the Wood" during the holidays.  It's very nice.  You might check out "Merry Axemas: a Guitar Christmas" which features Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jeff Beck, Richie Sambora, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and others.  Or Punk Rock Christmas, featuring Mojo Nixon, the Ramones and a bunch of others.  And the name I couldn't remember is Gary Hoey.  Ho Ho Hoey.  Good stuff.  Cheesy

okay, a few years ago i became obsessed with the Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late).  it's kind of catchy... in a piercing, semi-annoying kind of way.

If you are a Prince nut like myself, he does a great xmas song - "Another Lonely Xmas"

There is a great xmas cd that was released last year i think called "Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas" and it has a bunch of great stuff on it:

1. The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song
2. Dismemberment Plan - This Christmas
3. Death Cab For Cutie - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
4. The Polyphonic Spree - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
5. Sufjan Stevens - We Three Kings Of Orient Are
6. The Flaming Lips - A Change at Christmas
7. The Walkmen - No Christmas While Im Talking
8. Mogwai - Christmas Song <----sooooooooooooooooooo gooooood
9. Sufjan Stevens - O Holy Night
10. Yo La Tengo - Its Christmas Time
11. The Flaming Lips - Christmas At The Zoo
12. Eels - Christmas Is Going To The Dogs
13. Coldplay - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
14. Low - Just Like Christmas
15. Copeland - Do You Hear What I Hear
16. Ron Sexsmith - Maybe This Christmas
17. Sufjan Stevens - What Child Is This Anyway

you should be able to find it used on half.com or amazon for fairly cheap!  :-)
