Wow Wow Wow!

What is the shrine made of? It looks like wood but I think I recognize the skull as a mold I think I have...either way...STUNNING!

And I totally love the sacred heart painting and notecards...

Then again, there isn't anything here I don't love.

Yay! I'm so glad you like - Mel-my-issa you were a great partner too!

amaryllisroze - the shrine is wood - a white church bought at big lots that I painted and covered the roof with pressed tin. The skull on the door is painted sculpy that I pressed in a sugar skull mold and attached. The skulls inside are free form paper mache. I really had fun trying to make a boy skull and girl skull (for my-mel-issa and her hubby).

My favorite is the sacred heart painting - its a little hard to tell in the pic, but the frame has nails tacked all the way around it.

Thanks again for a great swap! I'm up for this again any time!

Shmee - that's what I thought the skull on the church was...I have some of the same molds.

The church idea was a stroke of genius, let me tell you! I might just have to do something along those lines myself, and if I end up doing it and posting it here, I'll give you credit for the rockin' inspiration!

You know, when I received my package from Mel-my-issa I was going through a super rough week with family troubles - her package was such a bright spot in a bleak hour it really helped... Craftser is such therapy and swapping is such a reminder of good things in the world...

Go forth and be inspired! I hit many a thrift store looking for a good shrine base before I stumbled upon this piece.... The sides are painted to look like Talavera tiles as well, which kind of repeats the pattern in the tin. Big lots is a surprisingly good source for these kinds of things. To paraphrase a great artist, its all about letting your eyes wander, eventually they will land on something...

Please do post what you make - I can't wait to see what you do!

I think the painting is an 8x8 stretched canvas - bought at the art store, with acrylic, gold foil, velum and nails. I'm working on a few more now since I really liked the way this one turned out.    Wink
