SORRY TO DOUBLE POST, but here is some info from http://www.absinthesupply.net

Is absinthe legal?

It really depends where you are. Currently, absinthe containing thujone for human consumption is illegal in some countries, namely Switzerland. In the United States, absinthe is not a controlled substance, but it's sale in bars and liqour stores is banned. It is however legal to posess in the United States. In most of Europe, absinthe may be sold as long as it remains under a certain amount of thujone. In Canada, absinthe is completely legal, and on sale in some liquor stores.

Is absinthe safe?

The thujone content of all commercial absinthes is low enough to cause no harm to the human body. Homemade absinthe, however can be potentially fatal. Be aware that although the thujone content of absinthe may not be harmful, it's high alcoholic content can be. As always, practice moderation when enjoying absinthe.

AND HERE ARE SOME FAIRY MOLDS!!!!

Thanks for the link to that site! I have wanted to know how to properly drink Absinthe for quite a while now, and now I know! I'm pretty sure most of the Absinthe's on that site are illegal here in Sunny Australia, but I know we do sell it in the bottle-o, so maybe ours is without that hallucinogin. If anyone knows, give me a yell!

Hmmm... now that I think about it, it probably doesn't have that hallucinogin, as several of my friends have tried it and not had effects of that sort... Though I certainly do NOT suggest having 3 double shots in 1 hour after drinking wine the whole day. My poor boyfriend was real ragged after that experiment.

peep.

yup. in australia absinthe is absinthe with wormwood as flavouring, but minus the hallucinogen.

it does however have a chronically high alcohol content (60%), and in my experience even sans the hallucinogen it affects me a bit differently to other alcochol. Not quite sure way. Placebo effect maybe Wink
And with such a high alcohol content damn you can feel it travel up your spine and hit your brain!

not entirely sure I can stomach absinthe any more - but these look pretty.
I've seen a few recipes for absinthe - I think the main problems are memory loss. Definitely has a different effect from other alchohol. Due to the memory loss thing I have no idea whether it make me ahllucinate - but I hallucinate easily anyway and judging form what others remember I was talking about I probably was.
(this comes from the girl who ended up drinking more than a third of a bottle of the stuff)

In moderation = fun times, more fun if you do the whole sugar fire deal

Moderation being the important easily forgotton thing

Yes you can import Absinthe to the US. There are companies that will ship, but if customs ceases it your out of luck. These are a neat flavorfull idea. However just like any confection flavored with alcohol you will not get the effects of the alcohol or the wormswood because they are both destroyed in the heating process. You will get a wonderfull green anse/ black licorice flavored candy.

Sooooo...... who could send me a bottle of this Absinthe with the "good stuff" in it?  I would be willing to pay for the shipping and for your trouble.  I read about it in a mag one time and I've been aching to try it!  PM me if anyone is interested!

The website in Motleykitten's post appears to mail order it.
