Having recently moved to the west coast, I am amazed and in love with the bounty of cool plants that grow out here.

I've been noticing all sorts of really pretty berries on several of them (including some brilliant purple and shiny blue ones!) and am dying to make something out of them. I was contemplating piercing a bunch on a needle then drying the little shish-kebabs in silica.

Does anyone have advice on preserving small berries for beads, etc?

i preserve holly for wreaths each year, and this is how (i'm not sure if it would work with other berries, although i don't see why not):

holly can be preserved by using a glycerine solution. make a solution of 1 part glycerin (99.5%) and 4 parts water plus one teaspoon of wetting agent per gallon of the above water/glycerin mixture. put your holly stems in approx. 2-3 inches of this solution to let your holly take up the solution systemically for three days. they will be preserved and stay soft and pliable for years to come.

hope it helps!

love is the flower of life, and blossoms unexpectedly and without law, and must be plucked where it is found, and enjoyed for the brief hour of its duration.
