Maybe the vinegar (acid) keeps the nasties out.

There have to be many cool uses for this!

Great idea!! So I'm guessing you cant buy envelope glue somewhere then?

i don't think you can... but even so i like being able to do things just with stuff i already have at home  Smiley

Dude! that's awesome. What kind of paper do you recommend to use? I'd think regular computer paper is too flimsy... but maybe not. Also, why the flavoring? Just for the yummyness factor?

i used regular computer paper, and it worked fine... and yeah the vanilla is just for yummyness  Smiley  so you could skip it.

Don't you need to keep this at least in the refrigerator?Huh With the gelatin in it, it could get not only nasty, but dangerous at room temperature after a while.

i don't know about this... Undecided  i've had mine for a few days... but i don't think i would be willing to keep it on my counter for much longer anyways  Tongue

does it have to be unflavored?

could you just use flavored and skip the extract?

i love this idea.

FYI gelatin is not vegetarian, so heads up if you care about such things.

Now I'm worried about licking envelopes.  How about using regular glue thinned with water?  It dries in a thin layer and can be reconstituted with a lick or a damp-rag swipe.

I was thinking about the vegetarian aspect too. Seing as how most people don't become vegetarians because of the taste *erhm* but to save the animals... I was wondering about an alternative. In pastries you can just replace it with pektin, but here I'm less sure.

Does anyone have a vegetarian envelope glue recipie?

-edit-
Oh! Great idea for stickers anyway, I'm not a real vegetarian, so I'm not bothered if others do it, I just want to maybe avoid it myself Roll Eyes but it'd be cool to make your own stickers like that.. or envelopes XD

I found this on http://www.geocities.com/athomelearning/recipecorner.html#Ve

Vegetarian Envelope Glue
1 T sugar
1 T Karo light syrup
1t cornstarch
1t lemon juice
2 T water
Mix all ingredients together, pour into stoppered bottle. Brush onto envelope flap, seal, let dry

I'm still looking for more though... I basically typed "vegan envelope glue recipe" into a Google search.
