Would anyone be interested in learning the art of tatting?  I can provide for that.  I would like to try making soap or candles.

Wow I'm so glad so many people are interested! Tatting is awesome(or maybe I just think so because I'm a tatter, lol). The more skills the better!

I just bought myself a shuttle and some thread and am trying to psych myself up for it!  That would be an -awesome- thing to do I think!

This sounds like an awesome swap, I'm totally in.

Tatting seems really difficult. Is it?
How long did it take you guys to learn?
Just curious...I've never known anyone who could do it and I'd love to try.

I think it's lace-making with a little shuttle-thing, but I guess one of the people who actually do it can answer that a little better! I'd love to learn that, too.

hmm, sorry to be daft but how will this swap work?

I've a few ideas for kits that I could make for different crafts.
Are we going to put together a wants list and a "can do" list and try match it up that way?

In the strictest sense it's lace making with a shuttle but you can make all kinds of other stuff designs as well.

It's pretty easy, you can get the basics down in a few hours. It's just like any other craft to master it it may take some time. I first learned from a instructional video from my library and of course didn't tatt for years. Then at a local community college they had a class, it was only two days for like 3 or 4 hours but after that I felt I could tackle just about any pattern.

Well this is how I envision it in my head(if anyone has any other ideas on how it would work better let me know). On the sign up sheet have people put 2 kits they'd like to make, it can be in the same craft as long as they're different EX: Basics of knitting and a specific project. And 3 crafts they would like to learn. I'll go over them and try to get the widest selection of kits. If I can match people up with just the initial sign up form that would be great but I don't really see that happening. So then I'll put out the selection of kits list and have everyone pick from that, it will be first come first serve so I'll try to keep everyone updated as much as possible.

Sounds like a good way to organise it!  I can think of quite a few things that i'd like to learn.  Maybe it'd be worth seeing if some people were willing to make the same craft kit twice, if there's a craft that is rare but popular?
