http://felted.diaryland.com/images/pinkhalterdress.jpg

This is only the second dress I've made from scratch. I used this really awful coral-pink material I acquired from one of the many scrap bins in the studio I work in at school--I believe it was originally used to make nurse uniforms or something. I used McCall's pattern (#M4440) to make the halter dress and had to alter the measurements a little here and there because my chest isn't big enough to fill out a typical McCall's size 14. I also silkscreen printed the birds on the front of the dress myself, using an image I exposed onto a silkscreen earlier last semester. I'm huge into small birds in flight, a lot of my work has been focused on that.

Anyway, I'm really happy with how it turned out. I messed up the back a little bit because the zipper sticks out in a weird pucker, so I need to adjust that but it's only trivial. Yay for making new summer clothes!

Thanks guys/gals!

Here's an image of the first dress I made. It's from the same pattern only it's strapless.

I dyed the fabric red (it was originally white) and then silkscreen printed the fabric (three layers of printing ranging from fibre reactive dyes to discharge printing to pigment). As I mentioned before, silkscreen printing is where my heart lies.. sewing is something I'm learning to become better at.

Here's another image of me wearing the dress while standing in an installation I did displaying all of the fabric I printed between Feburary and April 2004. This is an excerpt. There is more of the installation that isn't shown.

A hook-and-eye at the top of the zipper would be a nice seamstress-y touch... and the puckering is probably because you have a sliiiightly shorter torso than their fit model for that size.  Next time you can just cut a bit less just above the waistline -- the pattern should have a 'shorten here' mark thereabouts.

The fabrics are amazingly beautiful... keep up the good work!

I'm hoping in the future to do at least two bolts of fabric using the LOVE/HATE print and even some with the birds and stuff so I can sell it but right now I don't. I don't have the facilities to work the way that I want (as in, I'd LOVE to have a 40ft table for printing and a vacuum light table for exposing photo emulsion on my screens) but once the new semester starts in the fall, I'll be printing up a storm.

Wowsa! Everyone is right, these are amazing! I love the sense of composition on the coral dress. Such a bright color with the white birds works SO well. Great work!

Where do you live? And how old are you? You look like you could be my long lost twin, no kidding (even tho I wasn't born a twin). Very spooky the resemblance. Anyway, if you'd be interested in making fabrics in small quantities for me let me know. You have a special talent.

Awesome job! I love how you are wearing the dress to your installation event. No one had to say, "Are you the artist?"

I really love both the dresses.  I particularly like your silk screen design with the birds.
